Fakenham Town Council are advertising a new vacancy for a Full Time Estate Team Leader. Please see full details of the vacancy and how to apply below.
Salary – A salary starting from £30,024.
Hours – 37 hours per week - Monday to Friday. There may be very occasional evening or weekend working.
Closing date for applications – Midnight Sunday 28th September 2025
Applications should form a covering letter of no more than 250 words as well as current CV. The covering letter should state why you are interested in the post and should address how you feel you meet each aspect of the person specification criteria.
Purpose of the role
Fakenham Town Council provides services such as Recreation Grounds, Allotments, Cemeteries, and the Charter Market. The Estate Team Leader will play an important part in maintaining and improving these facilities, working closely with the estates team, contractors, and the office staff. This is a hands-on role, where you’ll lead by example, working alongside as well as coordinating and supporting colleagues to ensure the estate is well-maintained, safe, and welcoming for the public.
Duties and responsibilities
The post holder will:
• Work as part of the estates team to deliver effective maintenance of the council’s estate, assets, and premises.
• Carry out maintenance work as required (grass cutting, hedge trimming, street furniture repair, painting, etc.).
• Support and guide estates staff in their day-to-day work, helping to organise priorities and workloads.
• Ensure safe working practices, carrying out risk assessments, reporting issues, and ensuring operations comply with Health & Safety regulations.
• Oversee and maintain the inspection and maintenance schedules of the council’s assets, keeping accurate records and certificates.
• Respond to public enquiries and liaise with Allotment tenants, market traders, and other stakeholders.
• Support market operations by welcoming new traders, carrying out initial checks, conducting inspections, and monitoring stallholder compliance
• Assist with allotment management by carrying out site inspections, arranging new tenant viewings and handovers, conducting site reviews, and supporting positive engagement with
tenants.
• Contribute to reports for the monthly committee on works completed, health & safety matters, and estate issues.
• Support monitoring of contractors, ensuring tasks are completed safely and effectively.
• Promote teamwork, welfare, and good communication within the estates staff.
• Undertake other duties appropriate to the role as required.
• Work in line with the Council’s policies and procedures.
• Assist with preparations for public events
Person specification:
Essential skills, knowledge, and experience required:
• Experience in property, vehicle & machinery or grounds maintenance.
• Good understanding of health & safety requirements.
• Ability to organise workloads and support colleagues effectively.
• Practical problem-solving skills and a positive approach to service improvements.
• Ability to work flexibly, meeting deadlines under pressure.
• Ability to complete both manual, electronic and App based records.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills.
• Ability to carry out a variety of manual tasks some of which may be physically demanding.
• Full UK driving licence – required to operate council vehicles (Inc. tractor & UTV).
• Ability to lead and develop staff
• Ability to work on your own or as part of a team.
• Excellent communication skills whilst working in public areas.
• Flexibility
Desirable skills, knowledge, and experience required:
• Relevant qualifications or willingness to attend training (e.g. chainsaw, H&S).
• Experience of audits or safety checks
• Skills in general property/grounds maintenance.
• Horticultural knowledge.

Please note that a temporary road closure will be in place, to ensure the Market Place is safe for pedestrians whilst the service takes place.
