Salary – Depending upon experience a salary starting from £11.62 per hour
Hours – 20 per week

Fakenham Town Council have a vacancy for a Part Time Grounds & Maintenance person for 20 hours per week to join its small and friendly team.
Fakenham Town Council provides a wide range of services for residents, including Recreation Grounds, Allotments, Cemeteries, and a Charter Market. The person filling this role will be representing the town council to the public. Therefore, it is important to understand that, when dealing with the public, there is an 'ambassadorial' element to the job. Politeness, discretion, and tolerance are qualities frequently needed.
Responsibilities
The post holder will assist in providing efficient and effective maintenance of Fakenham Town Council estate, assets, and premises within the area of Fakenham.
To carry out grass cutting and strimming.
To maintain hedges and perform basic tree work.
To maintain gravel paths, shrubs, and flowerbeds/containers.
To litter pick and remove rubbish.
To carry out regular inspections of play equipment (training will be provided).
To ensure vehicles and equipment are regularly maintained.
To ensure that the Charter Market road closures are in place and removed according to closure times
To undertake allotment maintenance as necessary – strimming, weed killing, tidying of plots, removal of garden structures.
To level grave areas, reseeding or returfing as appropriate, removing wreaths when appropriate and clean the cemetery toilets as required.
To support occasional civic or council run events.
General maintenance - gates, seats, litter bins, notice boards, war memorial, painting and decorating, general repairs.
Such other duties appropriate to the responsibility of the post as required from time to time by the Clerk.
To comply with the Council’s policies and procedures.
To adhere to existing working practices, methods, procedures, undertake relevant training and development activities and to respond positively to new and alternative systems.
Person specification:
Essential skills, knowledge, and experience required:
Basic gardening skills
Ability to adapt to a variety of tasks
Full UK driving licence – Required to drive a tractor & ATV
Ability to work on your own or as part of a team
Excellent communication skills whilst working in public areas
Appreciation of Health & Safety and public safety
Flexibility
Desirable skills, knowledge, and experience required:
Appropriate qualifications or commitment to attend training courses i.e. chain saw / weed killing / H&S
Experience of grounds maintenance
Experience of property maintenance and general maintenance
Horticultural knowledge
